Possibilities of Both Federal and State Historic Tax Credits

The possibility of both federal and state Historic Tax Credits make properties in downtown Shreveport attractive to developers. The recent inclusion of Downtown as an Opportunity Zone in the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 will assist even more at returning properties to local tax rolls. Inclusion in the Opportunity Zone provides:

-Temporary deferral on Capital Gains.
-A step-up in basis for Capital Gains.
-A permanent exclusion on taxable income of Capital Gains.

For additional information on how to take advantage of the Downtown Opportunity Zone, contact Arlena Acree, Director of Economic Development, Office of the Mayor- City of Shreveport, 318-673-7515. For information on Historic Tax Credits, contact the DDA at 318-221-7403.
